A Proclamation issued by Tin Tsz the General of the

Chinese cause, in the Canton Frovince of the Shan Tin Kingdom of

the Ming Dynasty; setting forth a list of crimes committed by the

Manchus as an ultimatum.

Upon investigation I find that the Manchus are really

a detestable race of western barbarian tribes, and only form a

small country in the eastern provinces. Thiser Government is as

cruel as a tiger, and their character is like that of a poisonous

wolf. After To I Kwan ( an uncle of the first Emperor of the

Tsing Dynasty) passed the river, and taking advantage of the

tired state of Ng San Kwai ( a Ming Dynasty minister), the

Manchus captured the capital without any effort, held it, and

illegally killed the descendants of the Ming Dynasty, using the

cause of putting down the rebels, as a pretext for killing the

people. Unchecked in Ka Ping they butchered the whole city and

killed all both good and bad. And in Yung Chow they unmercifully

killed the people during 10 days. Both the guns and the stores

were destroyed (i.e. the nobles and common peoples were des-

troyed) and then Prince Kung and Shan carried war to the South

which resulted in the unprecedented disaster in Kwai Lam, outside

Canton City not one blade of grass was left in all of the 18

words. Inside the city 400,000 people lost their lives when they

were hiding in the six ditches of the city. The Emperor and

ministers of the Ming Dynasty were without guilt and yet they

were beheaded and their bodies mutilated, What crime had the

women and children done that they had to be pierced with spears

through their breasts and suffer exposure. Alas this is very sad.

How can we half feeling indignant. However the Manchu people

pretended to be kind while they secretly practised cruelty. He

used the pretence of not requiring military service as a pretext
